The Department of Mass Communication at Eastern Tennessee State University has launched a course in Nonprofit and Cause Communications with curriculum based on Raise Your Voice: A Cause Manifesto.

Taught by Assistant Professor Melanie B. Richards, PhD, the purpose of the course is to compliment the other mass communications core courses by increasing student's understanding of strategic communications in nonprofit organizations and for mission-driven causes.  The course is also focused on improving student’s confidence regarding the discussion and application of research findings in the nonprofit communications area.

The goal of the course is to provide the foundation for nonprofit and mission-driven communications, by examining topics including: importance of nonprofit organizations in the US, challenges specific to nonprofit organizations, mission-driven communications, the digital content environment for nonprofits as well as traditional communications channels, event marketing and communications, cause partnerships and related communications, volunteer engagement, and what nonprofits and for profit organizations can learn from one another. Further, this course will enhance critical thinking regarding the application of research in the nonprofit communications area to communications goals.

Raise Your Voice: A Cause Manifesto is top-rated on Amazon in the category of Nonprofit Organizations & Charities, and has also been included in the CASE (Council for the Advance and Support of Education) bookstore as a recommended resource for higher education professionals.
