Elyria Ohio Author publishes New Children's Book "Luckey Haskins and the Zoo Adventure"

Luckey Haskins and the Zoo Adventure

Elyria Ohio author and BGSU alumnus Brian Sooy has published his second book, "Luckey Haskins and the Zoo Adventure." Inspired by stories he invented for his young children many years ago, this book is the first in the Luckey Haskins Adventures series.

BGSU alumni may recognize the name, inspired by the names of the towns Luckey and Haskins Ohio, located near Bowling Green, Ohio.

Following an Associate's Degree from Lorain County Community College, Brian graduated from the BGSU School of Art, Division of Design. In addition to writing the story, he designed the book and published it through Altered Ego Media in collaboration with the independent publishing platforms CreateSpace and Pronoun.

The family-friendly story was written for his children, and told as a bedtime story as the children grew. "Luckey Haskins and the Zoo Adventure" is the first in the planned "Luckey Haskins Adventures" series.

Available in both print and e-book format, the children’s storybook includes whimsical illustrations by illustrator Ned Bustard.

Brian’s first book, published in 2014, is the Amazon top-rated "Raise Your Voice: a Cause Manifesto,” a guide to branding for the nonprofit and social sector.  Beginning in fall 2016, “raise your voice” will serve as the curriculum of a new course in Nonprofit and Cause Communications in the Mass Communication department at Eastern Tennessee State University.

Brian is a design consultant, author of thought leadership for courageous business leaders, and teller of stories for children. He is the principle of Aespire, a branding and communications agency located in Sheffield Village, Ohio.

Brian also publishes the blog EntreWorship, written for Christian entrepreneurs and business leaders who work by faith.

Book Synopsis

Luckey Haskins is a boy to whom magical things happen on very ordinary days.

When Luckey and his Mom go to the zoo on a hot summer day, adventure follows when Luckey's wish turns into reality and something unexpected happens. Discover the magic that turns mischievous shadows and monkey business into a surprise that changes Luckey forever!

With interactive questions and unbelievable situations (or so they seem), this story will encourage your child to use their imagination (and maybe, just maybe) unlock yours.

“When these stories were first told, it was to my children at bedtime. We invented them together. I created the character, they suggested the situation. I’ve carried these stories in my heart for many years, and now that my children are grown, want to share them with you.” —Brian Sooy

And so began a series of stories about a little boy who loved to jump. It didn’t matter that he was a boy (like our first born); our daughter loved the stories just as much. Luckey Haskins stories are kid tested and parent approved.
